Village Life

near Mangalore, Karnataka

There are several rivers in this area. There is plenty of water, the whole year.

 Ploughing with the buffaloes.

Planting the paddy (rice). The climate is so nice and there is so much water, there are two paddy crops a year, sometimes three.

The paddy is just threshed. Now it has to be brought to the rice mill to dehusk. The straw is nice feed for the buffaloes and cows.

Coconut trees and grasses for the cows.

 Harvesting the coconuts.

Growing vegetables to sell on the market in Mangalore.

 Beans.

 Tobacco.

Time to go to school, walking along the paddy fields.

There are several religions in this area. Here you see the tiger from the Hindu temple ...

 ... a Muslim school ...

 … a Christian saint.
